Tips for Entry Level Job Seekers

Written by Paulo Boranti, JobsArticle.com

Nowadays, most job offers prefer applicants with some degree of experience. This is quite ironic if not downright funny. For how can you get a job if you don’t have experience and how do you get experience if they won’t give you a job because you don’t have experience? To get around this problem, it is best to start your entry level job search.?This type of?employment search has its peculiar challenges but there are places that entertain applicants who do not have any job experience.

Your local college or university is a good place to start your entry level job search. Before there was internet, schools would have a bulletin board for employers to post job vacancies for new graduates or students. But now everything is done online. So look for the websites of local schools; they may have jobs posted there. Some jobs do not require a degree since they are meant specifically for those who are still studying. Naturally, these jobs are not for workers with extensive experience since students don’t have any at this point. So start your career search with the college or university in your area and keep checking back from time to time if there still aren’t any.

Your state’s website is another good place to start your entry level job search since they usually have sections specifically for this purpose. States are concerned with the status of their citizens, including their economic conditions, and they want to help find jobs for the people, whether they have experience or not. The local employment office can also help you in your entry level job search by posting jobs. Plus, they will usually have instructions on navigating their website and might even have sample resumes and cover letters for you to use as a guide. This is especially helpful for those who don’t have work experience or some who have been housebound and now want to go back to the workforce. If you want to talk to the people working at these sites, don’t hesitate to contact them too.

Enroll in classes that are offered at your state’s unemployment office; they will help in your entry level search for a job. Or take adult education classes to improve your skills. A higher level of education can compensate for lack of experience and you may gain skills which some employers will find more useful than another person’s experience.

Updates in certain computer programs will also give you an advantage since many programs get upgraded regularly. Keeping abreast with developments in technology and knowing the most up-to-date applications gives you the edge in your entry level job search. If schooling is not within your budget now, take advantage of free classes offered by your state or local college. Some continuing education classes are also quite affordable, so check them out and see where you can gain the most knowledge at a price you can pay for.

3 Effective Steps to Manage Your Job Search

Written by Matthew Howland, JobsArticle.com

Many job seekers struggle with how to effectively manage their job search. Given the fact job hunting is not something you do full time, this is understood. If you are recently unemployed, the reality is finding work now must become your full time job and it is time you became an expert.

As a construction project manager my skills and background helped me develop organized job management tools. The organizational methods I developed for my own job hunt, I now offer you.

At this point, I assume you already created or updated your resume as well as signed up for various job boards. If not, I suggest you do so prior to completing the steps listed here. For more help with getting your feet on the ground, Google my article “7 MUST DOs ONCE UNEMPLOYED”.
1. Create A List of Potential Employers

Listings on job boards will receive hundreds, even thousands of resumés, making your chances of landing the job or even being called for an interview very small. You can overcome this by contacting companies directly. Doing so will give you opportunities for unadvertised positions as well as potentially build your network.

Make an extensive list of all potential employers within your job search area(s). For assistance, use the local yellow pages or online business directories to seek companies related to your field. This list should be, extensive with at least 50 companies, or more.

After the list is created, prioritize it based on your job and employer priorities. The internet is your friend for finding necessary information to help with your decision. On a daily basis you will apply to some of these companies. Use your prioritized list which to contact first.

When prioritizing your list, use a somewhat adaptable method. The 1,2,3,4,... method, while effective for small lists, does not lend itself to large lists. My favorite way to organize large lists is to assign an A, B, or C to each item in the list. A = high priority item; B = medium priority item; C = low priority item. After an A, B, or C is assigned to each item, go through all of the As and assign a 1, 2, or 3. One being the highest and three the lowest. Repeat this step for B and C items. Even though some of your items will have the same priorities, your company list will be much more manageable.
2. Develop a Job Search Management Tool to Organize Potential Employers

To make your job search successful, you must manage employer information in a way you can easily reference. Three job search management tools I suggest:
A. Notebook

A three ring binder or spiral bound notebook is inexpensive and portable. Use one of these to track all of the job related information for each company. Divide the three ring binder with tabs and organize according to your priorities. Use these to separate jobs to which you apply.

For each company, use one page (front and back) in your notebook. On each page list the following information: company name, contact name, business phone number, mobile phone number, email address, website address, job title sought, and whether or not you sent a resume. When you first compile the list and notebook, you will not have all of this information, but leave room for it anyway. Try to fit this information in the upper portion of the page. The lower portion and back side is the log portion of the sheet, which you will use to document your interaction with the company. Note here all your communication and interviews. Date each log entry for easy reference and future follow up.

Consider maintaining a table of contents at the front and for each section of the notebook.
B. Spreadsheet

If you are handy with a spreadsheet, you can use one in place of the notebook. For this, create a column header for each item needed in the notebook. For the log portion, create a field for notes. Log each interaction and use a character such as a “;” to separate each entry.

Spreadsheets allow you to easily sort the data to suit your needs, though they are not easily portable. You can also use colors and shading to highlight specific cells.
C. Online Job Search Management

Online applications, such as JibberJobber.com or becomed.com, can help organize this information for you. Both of these applications can track all information necessary to manage your job search. Each has it strengths, so I suggest trying each to see which better suits you. Registration is free, costing you nothing but time. The advantage of this option is login availability at any computer.
3. Maintain Your Job Search Management Tool

As you hear about other job opportunities, add them to your job management tool. If you apply to a company using an online job board, add those jobs as well. Use the internet to ferret out as much information as you can about each company, and find a way to utilize it to your benefit.

These steps will help you be organized in your job search and successful in your ultimate goal, landing a job. The key to these tools and others like them, is to use them effectively and consistently. Adapt them to suit your needs. This is not a one size fits all solution, but a framework to get you started. Use and maintain these tools daily and they will aid in your success.

The Life of a Hospital Administrator

Written by Brent McNutt, JobsArticle.com

A hospital is a big place where a lot of work has to be done: helping people get along with each other, making sure the rules and regulations are doing their job, keeping a sharp eye on the expenses, and plainly getting things done smoothly and without a hitch. The hospital then needs someone to step in and make sure things are organized; allowing the doctors and nurses to do their jobs effectively and without worrying about the little things.

A hospital needs an administrator to do just that:

Management is one of the basic functions of a hospital administrator, making sure everything is working the way it should. A properly managed hospital allows the different members of the hospital (i.e. doctors, nurses, pharmacists, specialists etc.) to work in unison. This then allows for a system to take root and guide the regular and routine procedures of all the staff in a hospital.

Employment concerns like screening and promotions are yet another issue that a hospital administrator has to deal with. An administrator must learn to be able to identify who would be most qualified to be in a certain position, and a good administrator has to have a fundamental understanding of both the person being considered and the position he or she is gunning for.

Finance is one of the major responsibilities a hospital administrator has to have a hand in. Though the bulk of the computing for profit and expenses is left up to an accountant, a hospital administrator would make the decisions on financial solutions that will either make or break a hospital’s survival.

Policies may be considered an offshoot of an administrator’s role in management, but it is unique in its own right: drafting policies is like laying the path for the staff to follow. Drafting up good policies that will work for the betterment of the hospital and its staff requires intimate knowledge of everything that goes around in a hospital. This involves the implementation of the policies as well making sure that they are followed to protect both the hospital staff and the patients being cared for.

These four aspects of administration are just the general duties of an administrator. The little things and the specific tasks vary according to the level of an administrator, as well as the nature of the hospital he or she will be working in. But there is one more aspect that has to be taken into consideration, even if it is not strictly a requirement that will be listed in a hospital administrator’s job description.

That aspect would be leadership. It is above all else one of the most vital functions of a hospital administrator. Even if he or she pins down all the right moves in managing, employment, finance and policies, it takes a measure of leadership for a hospital administrator to actually get the willing cooperation of the staff to get things done properly.

A question in mind, how can a hospital ever manage to thrive without a hospital administrator? It simply is impossible.

Carpenter Apprentice

Written by Jereme T Green, JobsArticel.com

A carpenter apprentice goal is to become a great carpenter in order that he or she may complete this task they have to learn the carpentry trade or at least the basics.

During the learning process there are two tasks that a apprentice must complete in order to become a carpenter. The objective that a apprentice must complete is their schooling. Most people agree that it takes about four years of schooling to become a all around good carpenter. In school they teach apprentices the fundamentals of carpentry and more. The union carpenter school that I went to teaches students how to do concrete work. interior and exterior work and more.
?
The other part of the learning process is my favorite, on the job training. Its my favorite because the apprentice is getting paid to learn. Its the best way to get an education in my opinion. Usually a apprentice follows a journeyman carpenter. The journeyman carpenter teaches the apprentices all he knows until the apprentice gets it right.

Through out all the learning the apprentice learns how to work with carpentry tools as well. Some may have power such as a screw gun or a skill saw. Other tools will not have power such as utility knife and a hand saw. When not paying attention while using these tools all of them are equally dangerous. This is why they are taught to be safe while using every tool.

After 4 years of going back and forth to school and on the job training. The apprentice will eventually become a journeyman carpenter and be on his own. Most apprentices have it easy now a days back in my day I had to carry 2 by 4's and big planks, up hill in the snow I carried them up hill 2 miles just to find out there was another hill go up I did this everyday for one year. LOL I'm just kidding thank you for reading have a great day. More details at http://www.carpentrypages.com

Resurrecting Your Career – Lessons From the Great Fire

Written by Wendy Dashwood-Quick, JobsArticle.com

In 1666 the Great Fire of London savaged the City of London. It raged for days as it swept across the city after the flames were ignited at a tiny bakery in Pudding Lane.? The fire raised most of London to the ground including St Paul’s Cathedral. However, history has shown that London has withstood other catastrophes including the Great Plague and The Blitz.? The spirit of London will not be defeated and always comes back fighting.?

In the past 12 months the recession has torn through the City of London and many institutions have gone bust or severely damaged, creating massive job losses.?

But, at an individual level are there any signs that your career could be resurrected in another form, to rise from the ashes?? What would give you hope that there is the possibility for you to start again and build a new one?? What would you need to keep you hopeful?

After the Great Fire Sir Christopher Wren was commissioned to design a brand new cathedral.? By 1675 when stones were laid for the centre of the new building, stones from the Old St. Paul's were used. Wren noticed that one of the stones was marked with the Latin inscription "resurgam", which literally means "I shall rise again". He had the word inscribed on the pediment of the south door, beneath a carved phoenix.

Are you sitting around waiting for change, clinging onto your old life or career?? Could you accelerate change and thus call forth some action which could attract new opportunities instead?

If you let go of the old and open yourself to new opportunities, and start building something new then perhaps your own mind can be utilised to greater effect.? Empty to your mind, be open to change, ask questions challenge the norm and meet some new people you never know what you’ll get back that may point the way for your career, and like the phoenix rise again…

What Do You Need To Succeed Overseas

Written by Mela, JobsArticle.com

Globalization and technological advancements made migration easier. As the world seems to be getting smaller, more countries are opening up their labor markets for foreign workers.

Inspired with the success stories of those who found a better life abroad, many Filipinos think that the greener pasture is outside the Philippines. However, not all overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who try their luck overseas end up triumphant. So what does it take to succeed overseas? Is it loads of training on a particular field, years of work experience or a degree in a reputable university?

Surprisingly, consultants of international recruitment of expatriate workers for international companies worldwide said that people who were able to settle and adjust well in their new life and jobs in a foreign country are not the ones who have impressive educational and professional background. Rather they are the ones who have excellent attitude.

Neil Jacobs of Young Samuel Chambers (YSC), a group of business psychologists, describes a successful expatriate candidate as the one who is adaptable and have a naturally positive mindset. So if you plan to accept a job offer in Dubai or are thinking of immigrating to New Zealand, you should prepare yourself for all the changes and challenges that you are sure to encounter in your new environment.

Being ready and able to cope with life as a foreign worker is said to be more important than making sure that you are qualified for the position.

It is also important for OFWs to have an open mind and welcome the changes that come with migrating. International recruiters advised expatriate workers to be concern not just with the new job they will have abroad but the new life they will lead there.

Recruiters cited a culture shock cycle that is said to be experienced by all expatriates before they start adapting to their new surroundings. Foreign workers who successfully survive this cycle end up happy and accomplished global employees.

The first cycle is when expatriates gladly embrace everything about the place they moved into, the good as well as the bad. They see their life overseas as exciting and thrilling rather than dreadful and scary.

Then after this period comes the realization that their new environment is so different from the ones they are used to.? They start to miss their old life and then the dark clouds moved in, making them feel negative and doubtful, even angry.

This stage can make or break the career of an OFW. Those who cannot overcome the homesickness and boredom may end up going home or be a lousy OFW while those who fight the negativity by staying optimistic survives the cycle and eventually adapts to the changes.

To succeed, OFWs should take everything as a challenge and have a positive outlook by ignoring minor discomforts and see every difficulty they may encounter as a chance for learning.

The Truth Behind The Crash And A New Career Development Plan

Written by Bob Calkin, JobsArticle.com

I have just completed a new ebook called "The truth behind the crash and a new career development plan". However, I think you will find that it has some interesting stuff about the crash and what this will mean for your career and how you will need to think about a career development plan.

Most people believe that the crash is the result of greedy financiers letting their greed runaway with them. This is probably true, but it obscures an important fundamental problem with the structure of the economy, that made it possible for the financiers to do what they did. Remember the financiers acted with the blessing of regulators (read regulators who didn't really regulate) in many of the nations of the developed world.

The basic problems was that the boom of the last few years was fueled by the debt of householders who couldn't buy all of the stuff on offer from their ordinary incomes. The power of the productive machine had outstripped to capacity of households to consume the huge volume of goods and services and so the financiers came in and kept the wheels of industry and consumption turning over. The economy collapsed because of the debt burden, but the crash would have occurred much sooner if this credit had not been provided. The result has been a massive loss of wealth in the trillions and all the other turmoil that we are all experiencing.

Some of you will start accusing me of being a negative doom merchant, but if you continue reading yon will see that I am not really negative at all. I believe that the present crash offers many great opportunities, but it will not be business as usual, it won't be consumption as usual, and our sense of what it means to be successful will not be the same as it has been.

Why is this?

Well it's because the ecosystems of the Earth will not let us continue to degrade the Earth in the way we have been doing. It would take three planet Earths to continue the level of consumption that the developed world has indulged in, and if countries like China, India, Russia and Brazil are to consume on the same scale and in the same way as people in the developed world. The economy is a subsystem of the ecosystem and must obey its laws.

I believe that a new driver of the economy has to be found and that new driver could be the repair of the Earth's ecosystems. Such a driver of the economy will go right to the very core of the economy, create millions of jobs and rejuvenate the way we live. If this new economy is to preserve the benefits of our modern civilization we will have to be very much smarter about how we design and produce the goods and services we need and much smarter about how we consume them.

I believe that there is a groundswell of support for such an economy, that I will call a green economy, as many millions of people throughout the world realize that the economy that has collapsed was not sustainable. These people want something more than the "crap" the media serves up to as a desirable life style. They sense that all the glitz and glamor is not what a real human being is about.

I also believe that one of the reasons the eloquent words of President Obama at his inauguration were so heartily received was because they expressed the hopes and aspirations of millions of people around the world not just in the United States.

Because we will all need to be very smart about what we do and how we live, the workplace and our wider lives are going to be far more demanding than in the past. This is a daunting prospect for the majority of people, because at this time most do not have the qualities that are going to be needed.

Now is the time to develop these qualities, because the bad news is if you don't you will be left behind. The good news is that if you develop these qualities and create a career development plan with the new realities in mind then you will prosper in the new realities.

In to get some idea about what you can do and the qualities that will be needed obtain a free copy of my ebook by clicking click on this link, http://www.careermentoringinstitute.co.nz.

Jumpstart Your Career By Using A Big Picture Approach

Written by Barbara Brown, PhD
JobsArticle.com

Are you a manager who is looking for ways to jumpstart or advance your career? If so, in addition to working hard and achieving goals, you might want to find ways to subtlety (and not so subtlety) show that you understand the BIG PICTURE.?

Why? ?Because the further you move up the corporate ladder, the more your responsibilities will cover a wide range of areas within your organization. So you want to demonstrate your understanding of how the achievement of goals impacts profits or customer service for your 10-person team as well as for your 100-person organization. HOW and WHEN do you do that? Consider these four ?instances:

During Planning Discussions With Superiors: Think about the instances when you have to meet with your immediate boss or other powerful people to discuss future goals, strategies, etc. In those situations, find a way to link what your team or unit is doing to some broader organizational objective. For example, if the discussion concerns profits, describe how an increase in revenues in your area of responsibility might positively impact other areas. You could make the same connection with customer service, quality, or productivity. The topics are limitless.?

During Progress Discussions With Superiors: There are times when you have to update senior managers on what you and your team are doing. Use these opportunities to showcase your knowledge about what is happening elsewhere in your organization. Make connections with other teams, divisions, and departments. For instance, you might show how what you are doing or what you have done will lead to the completion of an assignment somewhere else.?

During Problem Solving Discussions With Superiors: Consider situations when the topic is problems rather than progress. These might involve people, processes, profits, or practices. Whatever the topic, use these encounters to demonstrate your knowledge about the synergistic impact—how failure in one area will impact another area. If the problem involves your team, explain how the resolution will affect other teams. If the problem involves another area within your organization, draw connections between improvements in that area and improvements in other areas.

During Non-Work Discussions With Superiors: Think about all the chance encounters you have with influential people. These might occur at the elevator, in the cafeteria, on the parking lot, or a charity event. Wherever the encounter, you probably start talking about the one thing you definitely have in common-WORK! So don’t just tell the other person what you do or respond to a question with a "yes" or "no" answer. Instead, pepper your remarks with comments about the strategic plan, the company vision, or the organization mission. And be sure to link what you do to outcomes in other areas within your organization.

Demonstrating Your BIG PICTURE Understanding Is Easy

The people in your organization who have power, influence, and authority can help you jumpstart or advance your career. And you are always talking to these people. So use such encounters to let them know how competent you are AND how much you know about your organization. The further you move up the ladder, the more you will need to understand the BIG PICTURE. To demonstrate that understanding, all you have to do is make a few small changes in what you say. So start today!

How to Find a Job in a Poor Economy

Written by Joan Yankowitz, JobsArticle.com

It's no secret that our economy is in very serious trouble. Everyday we hear about companies laying off thousands of workers, and the unemployment rolls are increasing each week.

The job losses are occurring in all American industries: real estate, construction, finance, law, newspapers, magazines, hotels - no sector has been immune to the financial downturn.

These obviously aren't ordinary times. What worked before when looking for a job probably won't work today. So what can you do if you find yourself out of work now?

Consider Relocating

You may be reluctant to move to another city, but you might have to in order to get a job. The economic downturn has affected the entire country, but some areas are having more problems than others. Research the economic picture city by city on the web to see if there are opportunities in your field in another location.

It's time to be realistic and understand that your job prospects might no longer exist where you live. Don't wait for competitors to get the job you need someplace else. Go after it now.

Get Training in a Growth Field

Find out which business sectors are still growing and hiring, and find out if you can take courses to get certified quickly. For example, health care positions are expanding, and are projected to continue to grow in the future. They may not pay as much as you were earning, but you'll be getting a paycheck and you might get benefits.

Get Creative

You may have been in one field for your whole career, but your job skills are probably transferable to other fields. Make a list of your skills and then search the Department of Labor's O*NET Online job database see how these skills might fit into other careers. Remember to include such skills as people, communication and leadership along with the skills you learned in school and on the job.

If you are able, consider volunteering to intern in a company to gain specific job skills. If you can get into a company, you have a better chance of getting a paying job when it's available.

Network, Network, Network

Tell everyone you know that you're looking for a job. Don't be embarrassed, or afraid to let people know you're out of work. Thousands of people are in the same boat, and you'll find that people are very happy to try to help you. Be helpful to them too. If you know of an opportunity that's right for someone, tell him. He'll appreciate it, and help you in the future.

Be Realistic

You're going to have to let go of your previous job status. It's gone. Be open to opportunities you never would have considered before. You need a job. This is no time to care about anything except bringing money into your house and family.

This is definitely a difficult time for job seekers. There's nothing normal about looking for work today. But you can give yourself a leg up on your competition by forging ahead doing everything you can to find work.

Develop Your Personal Strategy For Success

Written by Roger M. Ingbretsen, JobsArticle.com

The development of an overall “strategy for success” can become one of the most potent weapons you can have in your career arsenal, as you attempt to become more successful than your competition. Having ideas, dreams, goals, and understanding concepts that can have an impact on your success are both good and important. Accomplishing a few goals and doing something new is great, but having a strategy - a plan with objectives - helps you get the biggest bang for your effort while keeping you on track. Developing a strategy is about determining your capabilities, documenting your basic life choices, and instituting a plan of how to achieve a higher level of success and purpose within a given time frame.

The strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats framework is perhaps one of the best known approaches to defining strategy within a business environment. This type of analysis involves analyzing an organization’s internal capability - its strengths and weaknesses - relative to the opportunities and threats of its competitive environment. Using the information gained, the organization then puts in place strategic actions to preserve or sustain its strengths, offset its weaknesses, capitalize on opportunities and avert or mitigate threats. The strategic business plan, maps out key objectives over the long haul. It also helps establish the context in which daily decisions can be made to attain desired results. This same approach can be very effective in developing your own personal strategy for success.

An excellent approach to developing your personal strategy for success is to use the previously discussed business model. Start the process by making four extensive lists of your (1.) strengths, (2.) weaknesses, (3.) opportunities, and (4.) threats. Be brutally honest when making the lists. Write down as many things as possible for each category. I would suggest building your lists over several days. Show the list to a trusted friend and solicit their input. Once you have developed four long lists (quantity) then begin to refine the lists down to “three” things in each category (quality) that really resonate well with you -things you are truly willing to do something about.

The items you select should have the following four properties. They should demand specific action - what will be done, carry a high level of concern - this is very important to focus on, be clearly beneficial - when its accomplished success can be measured, and have an intended impact - this is what it will look like, feel like, be like, when you get there.

Once the three things in each category are identified, and the four properties satisfied, your next action is to develop a detailed game plan that supports the following questions. What can you do at every opportunity to capitalize on your three strengths? What can you do to overcome, mitigate, or turn into strengths, your three weaknesses? What can you do to use the three identified opportunities, to get closer to or attain your goals? What can you do to mitigate or avert your three weaknesses from preventing you from attaining your desired level of success?

The point of going to this level of detail is to formalize your actions, help paint a more complete picture of where you are, see clearly how all aspects are related and affect each other and help you develop an action driven plan for your personal success.

For your personal strategic plan to be most effective, it should be clear, simple, meaningful, and embedded in a process, which sets direction while remaining flexible. If you do not have a plan, you will not know where you are going. Your personal strategic plan positions you to move toward your goals. The plan should provide not only the destination but also the route.

Great Tips on How to Become a Dj

Written by Tim White, JobsArticle.com

First of all, becoming a radio DJ is not as simple as one might think. There is much training involved as well as classes that you’ll need to prepare you on how to become a DJ. Whether you want to work at a local radio station or a national broadcast station, you’ll still need education and training.

If you are a high school student, you should fill your schedule with as many speech classes as possible, including extracurricular activities like drama and debate. However, if you have already graduated from high school, then consider taking classes at a local community college or accredited broadcasting school in your area. Why should you take speech and debate classes to become a DJ? Ask yourself this question: How often do you hear radio disc jockeys stumble through their sentences or say “umm” while they are on the air? Not very often. Knowing how to speak fluently and with articulation is very important when learning how to become a DJ. You should be able to speak clearly and precisely even if you are not familiar with the topic.

While attending college or broadcasting school you may be able to sign up for an internship, which will help you learn how to become a DJ. Ask your school about paid and unpaid internship opportunities. You could be closer to becoming a DJ with a radio internship on your resume.

Also, consider working part time at local parties as a DJ to provide you with more opportunities to practice working in front of people instead of in a radio broadcast booth. Becoming a DJ is hard work and you will have to be resilient if you find that radio stations do not accept you as an intern or if the internship is not exactly what you expected. There is always an opportunity to learn if you keep an open mind.

Learning how to become a DJ is not only about introducing music. You must also be able to read commercials, give news reports including weather and traffic, and conduct interviews. So speaking to people and in front of groups will help improve your speaking abilities. This is where all those speech classes will come in handy. In addition to taking classes, you can also record radio programs and then practice repeating the spoken parts to advance your speaking abilities. Do this many times until you can read the entire segment without oral inconsistencies or long pauses. Perform in front of friends and family, and also try to get small gigs at local weddings, house parties, small bars, and other holiday related events.

Another great tip on how to become a DJ is to go where radio personalities are making public appearances such as a grand opening of a new store, a charity drive or any other local event. Be an observer and hang out by the radio personality’s tent or broadcasting station, and when he is not on the air ask the DJ a few questions about how he became a DJ. Ask if you can shadow him sometime, or just sit next to him and watch and listen while he is at that event. Carry a business card or other paperwork with your contact information as well. You may be surprised when you get a phone call or email inviting you to tour the radio station and talk to the radio DJs while they are working live on the air.

Whatever you do to learn how to become a DJ, be persistent, learn as much as you can and then keep on learning, be passionate about it, and of course, become a student at a local accredited broadcasting school to ensure a future of success.

Career Captivity

Written by Mario Venturini, JobsArticle.com

Although they do not realize it many people are held captive by their career. Even when their job is in jeopardy and it becomes clear that the company they work for is in trouble, the typical approach is to look for a similar job with a similar firm. Particularly for older people, the feeling seems to be that your future is predicated on what you have done in the past. This is a shortsighted approach to one’s professional endeavors and can be quite accurately described as career captivity.

As Tony Robbins, the motivational speaker and life coach suggests, the past does not equal the future. Certainly what you have accomplished over your career helps to define who you are today. You have learned many skills and usable lessons that can certainly provide value to you as you set about to earn an income. But your career efforts of the past are just that the past. They do not define who you will be tomorrow—or even this afternoon—if you choose to change it.

The world around us is constantly in a state of flux, always evolving and changing. Our career is exactly the same. Even if you have been in the same career for a long number of years, the way you do your job today is probably very different from the way you did it when you started. More often than not these changes are positive, and allow us to get more done in less time.

Career captivity starts however when you feel like you have no other options. Often times you’ll hear people say it’s “all I know,” or something else like “it’s all I’ve ever done.” This is a very shortsighted approach and clearly indicates that the person is being held captive to their career. The reason is that regardless of what you’ve done in the past, regardless of what your career has included, today is today and you can do anything that you want to do. If you are dissatisfied with your career, or are concerned about losing your job, you need to break out and seek freedom from career captivity.

Especially if you’ve been in the workforce for a long time, look to the Internet to find career freedom. People the world over are making fortunes through online Internet marketing, and doing it very quickly. It is a skill, regardless of background, that anyone can learn and that can be started with a few keystrokes. What are you waiting for?

Networking for Career Development

Written by Peter Fisher, JobsArticle.com

Networking is one of the most important business and career development skills anyone can learn. Yet, even to a seasoned professional it can seem intimidating or positively scary some of the time.

I am sure that you will agree that the term "networking" is one of the most clichéd and misunderstood words in our vocabulary; the dictionary defines networking as "the exchange of information or services among individuals, groups, or institutions." Strangely it doesn't define the rationale of networking.

If we view networking as the process of developing and maintaining quality relationships that are mutually advantageous, it won't take long to realize that networking is an important business and career development process. The continual building of relationships that can last a lifetime is what makes networking an essential part of our own development. This is why we do need to learn networking skills and keep our contacts in touch with us regularly.

Because, when we lose touch with someone, then call on them when we are in need, we create a negative networking situation and your contact no longer want s to talk to you. The person at the receiving end perceives the call as "he can't be bothered to keep in touch, till he wants something"

So, positive networking needs to become a way of life. As the old saying goes "It's not what you know but who you know." This is truer than ever in today's competitive world.

However, networking is not something that comes easily to everyone. You may be essentially a shy person, possibly feel you don't have the wherewithal, or as most of us are today, just plain busy. More than likely, you may feel you simply don't have the time to network. This is just an excuse!

Whenever you meet someone new, you have the opportunity to network and learn new things thus enriching your own existence. The truth then is: we really don't have time NOT to network.

Networking can be done any place, any time. As you learn about the other person you are networking with and how you can help them, they learn about you and how they can help you. This reciprocal effect is a direct result of you becoming interesting because you are showing interest. Help others connect to the people you know can help them, keep your promises and stay in touch.

You will frequently have opportunities to meet new people whom you can add to your list of contacts. Once you have established a connection, identify the people who can help you, stay connected, and keep your network growing. Identify the organizations and activities where people you want to know gather, get involved and become known.

Networking does not have to be difficult; in fact it can be quite fun, but bear in mind that you will need to continually work at it. Then, before you know it, you will have a strong network behind you whenever you need to call upon it.

And you will need to call on it sometime.

How to Kick Start a Career in Freelancing

Written by Mitch Tobias, JobsArticle.com

The first thing a prospective freelancer should be aware of when entering this field of work is this - YOU HAVE MAJOR COMPETITION. It's this reason that many aspiring freelancers get discouraged and give up after only a few attempts at securing that important first assignment. The key to success in freelancing is to weather the frustration, find a niche and take full advantage of any opportunity that comes your way.

The unfortunate reality of freelancing is this - you're going to have to pay your dues. You wouldn't expect to walk into a Fortune 500 company and demand a top level executive position, would you? It's important to remember that there will always be more seasoned freelancers available for hire; the key is marketing yourself in a way that attracts the attention of prospective clients.

Fortunately, you have found a great place to start searching for that important first freelance gig. Millions of Home Jobs is your #1 work at home reference network. By simply perusing our real-time job list located on the main page, you can pinpoint the perfect project, saving you time and maximizing your earnings.

Keys to Landing Your First Job

Landing that initial freelance job is a numbers game. You can't afford to be picky when attempting to find that first paying gig. Contact as many prospective clients as possible and always have relevant samples available to show off your work.

The first thing to realize when trying to distinguish yourself in the freelance market is this- money counts. If you're trying to break in to the industry you're going to have to underbid the more established freelancers. Why would a prospective client pay an unproven freelancer $400 for a project when he can get the same project completed by an established, respected member of the freelance community for the same price? Pay your dues. Accept any job you're offered, even if the pay isn't much to brag about - the experience is more valuable.

You're going to have to work hard and you're going to have to be resilient. It goes without saying that your first step should be to join scriptlance or getafreelancer, or both, as a premium member. To sign up with either of these services simply find a job on our main page that interests you and click the link. From there you will be able to read the overview and decide if the job is a good fit. If everything looks good, sign up as a premium member and make a bid on the job. It's that simple! As we discussed earlier, spending that small sum to become a premium member provides you with the instant credibility a non-premium member will never be able to obtain. In addition to the credibility factor, premium members also have the advantage of being able to bid for more jobs than non-premium members, giving you an inherent advantage in the job search market - don't forget, it's a numbers game.
